Melrose Cricket Club youth teams

A key role of Melrose Cricket Club is to draw youngsters into the game, and provide them with an enjoyable and safe environment in which to develop as people and cricketers. The club is committed to training its coaching staff through nationally approved programmes, and is currently fortunate enough to boast 2 ECB grade 2 coaches and several grade 1 coaches.

Junior members from ages 8 to 11 participate in activities and small-sided games with a soft cricket ball that are designed to be firstly enjoyable, but also develop basic cricket skills and introduce a low level of competition. The latter element is developed further by several kwik cricket tournaments that are held in the Borders over the course of the summer, and also by friendly matches played according to variety of formats.

While enjoyment remains the most important feature of the games, technical and tactical elements of the game are built up from the ages 11 to 13 by coaching and matches in a local under 13’s league with a hard cricket ball, which progresses eventually to under 16’s cricket and adult cricket.

Melrose Cricket Club is a family based club which serves the community, with a wonderful ground set under the Eildon hills. The club welcome players of all ages and abilities from diverse backgrounds.
